Some properties are experienced first and foremost as a place. Others carry an entire story with them. Herreportveien 40 belongs to the latter category. Behind the warm, yellow-colored facade hides a historic wooden house with illuminated roots dating back to the 18th century, today rebuilt on a large and green property by the sea.

The house is known as the old pilot and ship's storehouse from Tallakshavn. According to information from the seller, the oldest part consists of a wooden core from around 1720, while the house was later expanded around 1760. The building was dismantled and rebuilt on today's site in 1989, with extensive reuse of older building parts and materials. In 2016, the work was honored with the Norwegian Historical Monuments Association's conservation prize for respectful dismantling, rebuilding and restoration.

The park-like garden opens up as a large and sheltered outdoor space between the house and the bay. Here there is room for a long table, play, garden games and quiet days under old trees. Towards the sea, the property has 23 meters of shoreline. In addition, the property has a registered boat mooring on the neighboring property where, with the owner's consent, a smaller pier with bathing stairs has been built at their own risk without applying for public permission. As part of the agreement, others are given the right to bathe from the pier, which is rarely used.

Inside, the house's distinctive character has been preserved through, among other things, visible ceilings, rough beams, wide wooden floors, small-paned windows, older panel doors and atmospheric fireplace details.

The layout also provides plenty of space for both the extended family and guests, with four bedrooms and two bathrooms spread over two floors.
